The Bobblehead Hall Goes Ape For The Phoenix Suns Mascot

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed, limited edition Gorilla Phoenix Suns Framed Jersey Bobblehead on Wednesday. This nifty nodder was unveiled to coincide with the Suns’ home opener vs. the Denver Nuggets, which was scheduled for 7 p.m. later that evening.

Each bobble is numbered individually to 2,021 and retails for $40 plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order. The Suns’ mischievous mascot has an interesting origin story. Henry Rojas, who was a messenger for a singing telegram service, showed up for a home game dressed as a gorilla in the winter of 1980. Arena security suggested he do a few dances underneath the basket during a timeout and his act was warmly received by the fans. He continued to show up for home games dressed as the gorilla and danced his way into a position with the club when he was officially invited to be part of the team.

The Gorilla was inducted into The Mascot Hall of Fame in 2005.

“We’re excited to be releasing this awesome new bobblehead of The Gorilla,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “As one of only 20 mascots in the Mascot Hall of Fame, we thought the Framed Jersey Bobblehead would be a great way to commemorate on of the best mascots in the world and we think fans will love it.”

These bobbles were produced for the Bobblehead Hall by Forever Collectibles [FOCO].
